These are photos that I took of Union Station here in Washington, DC. Union Station is a major hub for Amtrak along the Northeast corridor. I find the architecture near the main entrance fascinating!

Hello, NML. Yeah, the port authority in NY is quite grimey. I guess that it goes with the character of the city though. :)

Dayum the closest I got to Union Station when my Hunny took me back home to visit his family was a dayum "drive by." He and his brother were like "ohh that's this, and that's that" while the car kept moving. Something about parking and traffic. LOL. I thought the inside of it was grand! Maybe next year. (altho I did have a chance to eat some of those yummy little crab and Maryland crab cakes)

It can be an interesting place with the right tour guide. I can't do the plain 'ol monuments. I'd have to take you to places that I like such as: Frederick Douglas home/Cultural tour. There is a lot of history in this city that is overlooked by many who live here. It would be great!

Beautiful architecture can really lift one's spirit, can speak for the city. I've seen some amazing works of architecture art in books and some in real life.
All they're putting up here are huge concrete *things*, no design, no plan.
I LOVE going to places with old architecture. I go downtown here in Detroit and am in awe of some of the old buildings and their intricate design. The headquarters of my old job took YEARS to finish. That was when hand craving and craftsmanship ruled. Now we have pre-fabricated buildings put up in milliseconds.

DC is interesting. It's thought of as mainly a transient town by many, but there is a distinct culture here. I hope you can visit.
I like your new skin Stephen, pretty colourful :) Nice pix, I am crazy about the interior with the dome, looks like "Park Station" on the movie Tsotsi it's simply an all change station. I know, I know, well that's a station where everyone have to get off the train!!

I love this kind of train station. The one I was in in this style most recently was in Portland, OR - I hadn't realized that was one of these great old train stations, but it is.
And it's odd - I was being nostalgic about the Union Station in Chicago today,
and then discovered you had posted this!

Ahh...nostalgia can be beautiful. I'm often nostalgic about a lot of things. I've been to Chicago many times, but never their Union Station. I'll have to visit next time.
Nice pics. I live in KC and for decades our Union Station train station lay dormant and closed. For a long time, it was an eyesore. When it was refurbished, FINALLY, it was amazing! Everytime I go in there, I'm reminded of a time past -- it's so easy to feel the history of the place. Some of it's most notorious history is the infamous 1930s Bureau of Investigation Massacre at the hands of Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd. I can only imagine what our Union Station was like on that horrific day. Anyway -- I know you like history -- so here's a link, although you probably know the story already!
