This morning, I was scrolling the different stories on Facebook and Twitter and just as the title says, I saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. Don't worry, I won't get into Clint Eastwood and his past antics, but the title fits. Anyway,  to no surprise, most of the post were about the presidential race and many were about Donald Trump and his latest comments. As I began to look at the different post, I was also led to other Facebook users who were not "friends." I went to their pages that were based in places like North Carolina, Virginia, and other parts of the south. Many of them had anti-Obama post and other post promoting "Southern Pride" replete with images surrounding the Confederate flag and the "southern way of life." On the other hand, I went to pages that were anti-Trump. These pages either expressed wanting to do physical harm to Trump and his supporters or post making fun of the presidential candidate. There were other post making...

Politics of Fear and Obama

Image
I'm sure that most of you have seen this image by now. This illustration (artist, Barry Blitt) on the cover of of the July 21, 2008 issue of The New Yorker depicts Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama dressed as a Muslim and his wife, Michelle Obama, as a terrorist. To top it off, there's a picture of Bin Laden on the wall and the American flag burning in the fire place. Lets' face it, Americans scare easily. Placing an image like this in front of an American public that is constantly reminded of the threat of terrorism is not a smart move. It only adds fire to a pot that's all ready boiling over and perpetuates the growing negativity towards the Muslim community. In closing, I feel that media organizations should be mo...

Obama, Clinton, and the Media

Image
This is funny. You know, the media has a great time depicting Hillary Clinton as a blood thristy, raging, power hungry white woman. Even though I am a supporter of Barack Obama, I'm leery of how others are presented to me by the media whether it is favorable or not. This is especially true when it comes to politics. Yes, I was also leery of Obama in the beginning. He seemed too good to be true. Plus, I felt like many who thought that America would never, never, never place a person of African descent on a believable path to the White House. Now, I'm just anxious to see how all of this will pan out. Is America finally ready to start the healing? Are we ready to turn the pages of history and start a new and inclusive chapter? Perhaps.
