My Trip Home

Yesterday, I saw this old woman on Minnesota Avenue with bags from the grocery store. I noticed her walking while I was riding by on my trip home. Her frame was bent and twisted from old age that left her head tilted and bowed. The bags she carried swayed side to side from the rhythm of her walk. I wondered how far she was traveling with her infant like stroll that seemed choreographed and tedious. She'll take hours at that pace I thought. Where are her children or a well intended neighbor? The city is cruel to her kind. I hope that she'll be alright. I must remember to pray for her protection and well being. Well, I hope that this weekend will be a nice and safe one for us all. Peace~

Bewildered

Good morning! Life is funny you know. I mean really..... do you know? I was just talking to a friend of mine yesterday and we were discussing how difficult life has become as an adult. I think that 80% of our grief and confusion is self-induced. We put ourselves through so much trying to decide what to do with our lives. I hope to circumvent all of the hoping and wondering and get right to it. Yeah, good luck Steve!!! I know! It's all about an action plan. I must compose an action plan! This will help me move things along at a faster pace. It's worked in the past and there is no way I would be where I am otherwise. I'm glad that It has been at my own pace to a certain extent because it has slowed the aging process. I'm not nearly as stressed as some who seem to have everything. That's right....I don't want to move along because things are so bad. I want to move along because things are so comfortable. Besides, I am the locomotive type. I must move along eventual...

Awakening

I had an epistrophe like Thelonious and began to strike last night. I had a desire to create and excite and I began to strike last night.......the keys as I thought out my plot and phrases I felt the keys under my finger tips as I began to tap a rhythm that weaved words filled with color and imagination. My thoughts passed through different stages as I attempted to raise these tales out of the catacombs of my brain

Law Of The Bluest Eye

"And it was, for we were not strong, only aggressive; we were not free, merely licensed; we were not compassionate, we were polite; not good, but well behaved. We courted death in order to call ourselves brave, and hid like thieves from life. We substituted good grammar for intellect...." Author: Toni Morrison ( Bluest Eye , 1970) Toni Morrison's words sounded off in my head like a siren when I first read them. They were also reiterated in Black Star's (Mos Def & Talib Kweli) lyrics for Thieves In The Night . The words speak truth about human behavior and who we really are. Do you ever think about what you would do if no one could see you? According to Bismark, "our character is what we do when we think no one is looking ." It certainly makes me question my character especially in my most vulnerable moments. Are we good beings? Am I a good person? I think that most of us are guilty of not being such good people. There are few among us who would not do...
