This a newspaper clip of me on college radio back in the day (90s). That's me on the microphone. I'm in good company with fellow dee jay Michael Wayne Swanston(left) along with Jazz historian and station manager Theron "Ike" Carter. By the way, I took some pictures on my trip south. Check them out on Flickr. Peace~

There are times in our lives when we have a brush with greatness, but most of the time we are just not aware. We encounter this excellence from time to time, but remain oblivious. These individuals (some of them may be you) may not get national or international recognition, but they are “great” in the eyesight of those who are aware of their contributions. For me, it was 1992 and my sophomore year as a student at Savannah State College. My English professor decided to take our class on a field trip to Savannah’s historic Beach Institute . Beach Institute began as a school for African American students before integration. It now functions as a museum and archive of African American history. It is also connected with The King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation of Savannah. The professor told us that we were going to see and meet a very important Savannah native. He was also a graduate of Georgia State College (Now Savannah State University ). Who was this man? Well, he was born Westley W...

Welcome To The Land Of Red Clay

Every year I have to decide whether I am staying in DC for Thanksgiving or going to Atlanta. I am certain that my situation is not a unique one. You see, my parents have been divorced since the early 1970's. So, during the holidays I have to decide which holiday I am going to spend with each parent(Mother=D.C., Father=ATL). This year I am going to take that drive to Atlanta to be with my father and my family there. I always look forward to returning to Georgia because that is where I spent all of my college years (class of '94) between Atlanta and Savannah. I'll get to see some of my friends because most of them are from the Atlanta metro area or they moved there after college. I'll also get to hang out with my younger brother. We usually head to East Atlanta, Little Five Points, or to my old spot, Apache Cafe. Anyway, it will be good to see everyone and spend some time with people that I love and care for. I hope that all that view this blog will have a safe and wonder...

Poetry: Patiently Waiting

"Whatever we are waiting for -- peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of simple abundance -- it will surely come to us, but only when we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart. " Author: Sarah Ban Breathnach Hurry up and wait! I should have waited ....I should've stated that I wanted it before it's conception Feelings of lost and shoulda-couldas cloud my mind and crush my wishes curried dishes distorting a vicious reality I should have waited I see your picture and I imagine myself in your time and space invading your place but not wanting you to feel displaced or disgraced tasting the remnants of southern dishes smothered with shrimp and white sauce It was like that Sunday in Savannah or that Saturday night at Lady & Sons Paula Deen wasn't there but we didn't care We took a walk on the boardwalk and watched the Sun set on Tybee Remember that swinging chair and the wind blowing through your hair We could see ships floating...
