P.L. Dunbar Hymn: Lead Gently, Lord, and Slow

Image
Lead Gently, Lord, and Slow Lead gently, Lord, and slow, For oh, my steps are weak, And ever as I go, Some soothing sentence speak; That I may turn my face Through doubt's obscurity Toward thine abiding-place, E'en tho' I cannot see. For lo, the way is dark; Through mist and cloud I grope, Save for that fitful spark, The little flame of hope. Lead gently, Lord, and slow, For fear that I may fall; I know not where to go Unless I hear thy call. My fainting soul doth yearn For thy green hills afar; So let thy mercy burn-- My greater, guiding star! Sources: esperstamps.org; Dunbar, P.L. (1913). The Complete Poems of Paul Laurence Dunbar. Cater Godwin Woodson, the father of African American History, was born on this day in 1875.   Woodson founded The Journal of Negro History (now the Journal of African American History), which chronicles the lives and history of Africans in America.   The journal is published four times a year by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, founded in 1915 by Woodson and Jesse E. Moorland.   Carter G. Woodson died on April 3, 1950 in Washington, District of Columbia at the age of 74.   Woodson’s contributions and research in African American history and culture is paramount.   He is an inspiration to Morphological Confetti, and all who love and research the history of African Americans.   God bless his soul.
