MC Spotlight: Superior Scribblers

Image
I love your blog Award Hello blog family. I hope that all of you have been doing well. The new year is coming and new things are coming with it. For instance, Christina over at Soul Aperture has given me the I love your blog and Superior Scribbler awards. This makes me smile. Thanks, Christina. I hope that I can still live up to this in 2009. As a matter of fact, I plan to take it to the next level or take it to the Bridge as James Brown said. Anyway, I want to present the Superior Scribbler and the I love your blog award to a couple of bloggers I have met recently. I enjoy reading their work and I just love what they do. They are: Exploration of the Mind , Poeticpin , and Farsighted Fly Girl . Go visit them and check out some of Poeticpin's and Leonie's poetry. The Farsighted Fly Girl's take on history and cutlure; the photography is great too. Enjoy the New Year and be safe. Peace in Gaza~

A Goat for Christmas

[ Lil' Stevie's mother is sitting at the kitchen table having a cup of tea. Lil' Stevie walks in with a confused look on his face ] Lil’ Stevie: Mama, would a goat make a good Christmas present? Mama: A goat? Why would anyone want a goat for Christmas? Lil’ Stevie: When I talked to granddaddy on the phone, he said that he would buy me a goat for Christmas if I come stay with him in North Carolina. [ Stevie’s mother laughs out loud ] Lil’ Stevie: What’s so funny mama? Mama: Well, what did you say? Lil’ Stevie: I asked him if I could bring the goat back to Washington D.C. if I changed my mind about staying. Mama: What did he say? Lil’ Stevie: He said I could ‘cause DC already has a donkey and an elephant. He said that it was about time for something new like a goat. Mama: [ Smiling ] Oh, grandpa went political on you. I guess that it is about time for a new symbol of change in Washington. A goat is a great political symbol because goats get rid of all the trash arou...

I remember...

when Washington, DC was called "Chocolate City." I remember when you didn't see many White, Asian, or Black Americans wearing dreads or locks. I remember when you only saw body piercings in National Geographic magazine. I remember when mostly people in jail, bikers, and military personnel wore tattoos. I remember when children would go outside to play. I remember when you had to go to a video arcade to play video games. I remember when kids would settle their disputes without guns. I remember when young people would have parties at their home and no one would get killed. I remember when classroom teachers could spank you. I remember when parents did not let their kids hear them curse. I remember when my mother would take me and my brothers to a drive-in movie with a bucket of chicken and a 2 liter bottle of grape soda. I remember when my mother would buy food and tennis shoes/sneakers for us at the grocery store (*singing* Jeepers...Jeepers where'd you get those sneak...

MC Spotlight: Marvin D Wilson

Image
Todays MC Spotlight is on author, Marvin D. Wilson. I have only been acquainted with Marvin and his character, Owen Fiddler for a short while, but I find them both to be very interesting. Marvin his on tour with his new novel, and Morphological Confetti is one of the stops. Well, without further ado, here is Owen Fiddler; Let us know what you think. Do you like it? Do you want it? Well, if you had it would you flaunt it? Well it's yours. Check it out: A Pivotal Segue ( An excerpt from Owen Fiddler, chapter fourteen ) Cake and ice cream did nothing to satiate someone like Owen, so he pulled over into a truck stop on the way home and went into the greasy spoon, looking to buy a cheeseburger and some fries. The smell of frying burgers, bacon and eggs and all things cholesterol and unhealthy warmed his attitude a tiny bit. He plunked himself into a booth and scanned the well-worn plastic-coated menu for a burger of his liking. Decision made, he looked around for some service. Where t...

Poetry: Thomas Bess Jr.

The Paper-cutter By: Thomas Bess jr. waiting in the blackness for my alarm clock to go off, the screaming banshee opens my eyes to pierce the blackness of my four walls. i see the ghost that is my work clothes resting lazily on my chair; starched white shirt, black pants, black tie. out of the apartment. i wait for the bus. i waited and cursed my local transit system. late again i was late yesterday i left thirty minutes earlier than yesterday and i was still late later than the day before i felt a cold numbness i imagined the look on my boss’ face when i tell him the bus was late again i smile an insane smile to myself i held my gas station coffee -- sweating palm the humid air clings to my business casual gravel and dust make my dress shoes look lousy i stand congregated with the other losers waiting for the bus it comes. no smiling faces sleepy zombies the bus stops i'm here quontavious, i don't think we’re in kirkwood anymore store-brand coffee brewing in employee lounge a...
