Hello From Home

Good morning! It's been a really interesting weekend and I'm still not back from it. I was supposed to go to work on Tuesday, but that didn't happen. It's now Wednesday and I'm still not back. Well, the reason for this is because I've been sick for the past two days. I caught a cold and I haven't been able to shake it as quickly as I thought I could. I got up on Tuesday morning with every intention to go to work and my wife looked at me and said, "Are you crazy, Bess? Look at you! You're sick man!" **smile**So, I got back into bed. I did the same thing this morning and she just looked at me and gave an emphatic "NO!" So, I got back into bed, but I got right back up after she closed our front door. Anyway, I just wanted to peek in to say hello. I miss my friends here. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful week! The weather is scorching here in this swamp called DC. It's supposed to mellow out by the weekend. Well, peace to you all and I'll be back soon. :)

Side note:
I'm sitting here typing while glancing at the TV. The Today Show (is that the right show?) is saying goodbye to Katie. I gotta get outa here!

Hope you feel better. Its hot here in St. Louis, too.
Your wife is wise - you'll be much more productive when you are healthy.
Next you can watch the VIEW and tell us how it is with Rosie. ;)

Your wife calls you by your last name?

The View!! NO!!! :)
Thanks! She is a wise woman. She's also very intimidating when she get into her nuturing role. :)

mjw-
Yes, she calls me by my last name when I'm doing something wrong or when I'm just in trouble. However, in her South African culture we are not supposed to call each other by our first names. She usually just calls me 'Bess' or by my middle name. I usually just call her ratu (love) or some other pet name. If I'm looking for her in a crowd I simply say her name. Phew! I hope that wasn't too much?

Thank you Ananda! Peace to you and thank you for your blessings and affirmation. I'll be getting back to my routine by tomorrow I hope. Otherwise, it's an extended vacation with a little cough. :)

lol@wifey putting the smack down. *nodding head* yup, she's a gem!

My sympathies on the cold. Summer colds are the worst, I hope you get better soon.

Aside: It is the same in Kenya. Most couples do not know how to call each other - a problem soon solved by the arrival of the first child and then they become "Mama Jane" or "Baba Jane" (and that is to everyone, including their parents)

I also hope you are up and back to normal soon! Here in MN it is FINALLY getting cool enough to be nice again. All weekend it was unbearablely hot (95,97 around there in the day and 75, 77 at night) with high humidity. YUCK. It just took your breath away when you walked out from an air conditioned place. We usually do not get that until July or August. But now it is real nice again.

I give your wife HUGE props for making you stay home and get better! Also, your co-workers I am sure thank her for not letting you spread it to them all. :) So,take care of Stephen, and get better! We have missed you as well! :(

PS, very interesting about not calling people by their first names. I have not heard of that. I am always learning from you Stephen! And thank you as well Uaridi! I love learing about different cultures!

Haa haa! Yes, she's a gem alright! :)Thanks for your well wishes.

uaridi-
Yes, many of her family and extended family call me Ntate Bess. The word 'ntate' means mister. My family gets a kick out of that. Thank you for your well wishes.

That's "Baba" to you. :)

Oh! my bad, Baba Bess :)
Hope you bounce back soon!!

Your culture is so wonderful, it distinctively separates boys from men :)

Tryphina, in Stephen's case, it is quite distinctive that he is a man, not a boy, but sometimes it is not so easy to tell. There are a LOT of boys in men's bodies here. I think we all here would agree with that! :)
