Spring In Dupont

The temperature is up to 75 F here in DC. Spring is finally here! I love to go for my little stroll after lunch. This is a scene up on Dupont Circle around lunch time. There were so many people at the park just chillin' all over the grass. I've never been comfortable with "city" grass. There are too many dogs and pigeons in this area. In other words, too much dog and pigeon pee all over the place (although I've never seen a pigeon pee?). You don't want to get that stuff on ya! I'm going to need a blanket down there. These people, on the other hand, are very comfy with the land. They're lying down and eating on it??? I don't know? I guess that I'm just funny like that. Have a great weekend and take a blanket if you go to the park! :)

Camping trip?? Man, I'm not sleeping out in the wild. :)Sleeping in the wild to me is falling sleep with a window open.

Actually, that would be fun come to think of it.

I can't dig that city grass. I have to be a little away from the city to feel comfortable without a blanket.

not gonna lie, i got caught up in a moment @ Central Park last spring while my beloved was playing soccer. i will blame it on being pregnant. i needed to lay back for a minute *lol*

Dude, you are totally justified not wanting to sit or eat on the grass.. not only is there endless bacteria from birds and animals, but think of the people who have hocked loogies and pissed there.

Wow... now you'll have me thinking about what's in grass whenever I walked by. I never sat on grass because I always wear dresses, but I never will with that description.

wow...looks like a beautiful city!
we were lucky to get a few sunny days here too....trying not to get my hopes up.....still could get one more snow...have a wonderful sunday, and week!

Remembering Linda Pollin

I grew up in the  Linda Pollin Memorial Housing Projects.   First of all, I did not know that it was built in memory of Abe Pollin's daughter.  In fact, I didn't even know the name, Abe Pollin.  I was a child, so I thought it was just a name given to the apartments.  At the time, my siblings and I had no idea that we lived in a housing project.  Well, the complex had a swimming pool, and the grounds were well kept. Also, it didn't resemble the well known surrounding projects like  Valley Green , Condon Terrace , or Wahler Place . The manager was Ms. Royster who was sort of a no-nonsense type of landlord based on the conversations I heard from grownups.  However, she seemed nice; plus, we all played with and knew her son, John. Did you know that Uncle Ben was a real person? We really don't care who is fact or fiction when we want some rice to go with those red beans or peas. We just want to eat, right? Well, Uncle Ben was a African American rice farmer from Texas who won many prizes for his methods and quality in growing rice. I know that most of us think of Asia when it comes to the cultivation and quality of rice, but there was a region in West Africa that Europeans called the "Rice Coast" near Sierra Leone. That area was a strategic focus during the slave trade in the late 1760's because rice was becoming a fast growing industry in America. Uncle Ben's ancestors were most likely victims of the rice boom. Anyway, Uncle Ben's reputation grew and his rice soon became the standard in which all rice would be measured.
