Lil' Stevie's Christmas Questions

Lil Stevie: “Momma, how come we don’t got no chimney?
Momma: “You mean, why don’t we have a chimney?”
Lil Stevie: “Yes, Ma’am.”
Momma: “Well, because we live in an apartment.”
Lil Stevie: “Oh. Well, how is Santa going to get the presents to us if he can’t come down the chimney like on TV?”
Momma: “He’ll come through the front door.”
Lil Stevie: “Who will let him in? Won’t you be sleep?”
Momma: “I’ll leave the door unlocked.”

(Stevie looks at his mother and scratches his head)

Lil Stevie: “No momma! ‘Cause If you do that then somebody will come in behind Santa and try to rob him! Then, they will probably beat him up, take his money, take his reindeer and sell ‘em, sell all the little girls and boys toys, plus our gifts! After all of that then Christmas will be over!”
Momma: “No it won’t son because we’ll still have Jesus.”

(Stevie looks at his mother and scratches his head again)

Lil Stevie:
“Momma, what does Jesus have to do with Christmas?”

Well, Lil Stevie; Jesus is Christmas :)
ChristMas means all the people, all over the world should celebrate Jesus Christ (Christmas = Jesus Christ-Mass)

Merry Christmas Lil Stevie :)

P.S. Be nice to your parents all the time, not only on Christmas!!

How wild was your imagination?

Tryphina-
Thank you for explaining this to Lil' Stevie as his mother did. :)

Mwabi-
It was very wild! :) This is inspired by a real conversation that I had with my mother.

This is a great chance for Momma to teach Lil Stevie, isn't it?

But it's so sad what the reality of his little life is, the bad guys coming to rob. Oh, poor little baba.

neena maiya (guyana gyal) said...

I thought it was you! Were you scared growing up, thinking all those things about bad guys?

GG-
We lived in a bad neighborhood. :)I asked a lot of questions when I was growing up. My imagination would run wild. :)

The genuine voice rings through. I appreciate your candidness, while bringing to light, a reality that is distant to many people. I'm happy lil Stevie had his mommy to reassure him ; )

This is a tender post. Thank you.

Oh dear, oh dear, Stephen. Glad you came through, friend.
Thanks for being so supportive of my writing.
Really appreciate it.
Here's wishing you happy holidays, a truly merry Christmas with Christ and a very happy new year for 2007.

That was great! Many kids don't associate Jesus with Christmas because Christmas has become so commercial. We have to do much better in teaching our children the real mean of christmas. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

My mama always said that Santa had keys to everyones house..

that was always pretty comforting..

I really like that. Cuz we forget the the real meaning.

Did I ever tell you about how my dad took a picture of my mom with her arm out (as if she were putting her arm around someone) and told me that they, "tried to take a picture of Santa but he's invisible in pictures..." I believed them until they tried the same thing with the EASTER BUNNY!!!!
Have a GREAT HOLIDAY.

There was me thinking that lil Stevie was a child of our times. It turns out he was a child of your times. But I guess you got the lesson good, eh Stephen?
Are you gonna stay focused on it through the next 4 or 5 days? Nah, you'll find some time to indulge a bit too! Go crazy and get ready for those giant strides upwards in 2007! In peace.

That was soooo cute!!

And its a situation that I'm glad you were in so that you could inquire such a thought.

Many children coming up these days only know Christmas to be that of BIG GIFTS.

And although Christmas is in part about gift giving--based on the Bible, and how everyone brought gifts to baby Jesus--it is about much more and children really should be taught the key concept of Christmas first.

Merry Christmas Brother Stephen.

For some reason, I never believed in Santa but I was scarred as heck of the Sand man putting out my eyes if I did not fall asleep on Christmas eve.

I saw Na'im Akbar this summer & during his presentation he stated that if Black parents were going to lie to their kids about Santa, why lie and say that a fat anonymous white man was coming to the hood to give ghetto children loads gifts. If you are going to lie, tell them that Santa real name is Hakeem and he has dreadlocks.

I cracked up!

Happy holidays,
Bygbaby

see! This is what I'm talking about. . . so few words, but so much meaning.

I always find it funny, that Jesus was so much more a part of my Christmas in Dubai (a muslim country) than in Canada (a supposedly Christian country.)

Good thing Mumsey set lil Stevie right....

Season's Greetings, Btw.

I agree. We much teach our children the true meaning. It’s important that they know the difference.

Cynnie-
LOL! I was so naïve. I would’ve trusted Santa back then. :)

Christopher-
I agree. Welcome!

Thank you as well! That was a great addition to the story. My mother appreciates the kisses. :)

That is pure childhood innocence comedy. Belated happy Christmas my friend and I'm sure you have *both* Santa and Jesus in your Christmas now ;-)

Stephen A. Bess said...

NML-
Yes but I found out that I am actually Santa. :)

That's as bad as my daughter asking me if christmas was santa's birthday. These are the times when I am sure that not taking my children to sunday school, eleven o'clock and six o'clock service is the worst decision i will ever make as a parent.

Mama-
Yes, we have to teach them the "Reason.." as folk say. :) Good to see you.
