I hung out at the Mocha Hut Saturday afternoon on U street here in DC. This place is really cool. It has great atmosphere, comfortable seating, gracious host and a delicious breakfast menu that includes delectable snacks! I had a really good breakfast/brunch while I was there. I went there to meet my cousin and his friend who were engaged in a friendly game of Chess when I arrived. Well, I thought it was friendly until the young lady would get frustrated with the game and knock over the pieces. LOL! :) She did this about 5 times as I sat there eating. I would just laugh everytime and she would give me that one trembling evil eye. **grin** She was a sweetheart afterwards and we talked a little before I went out to do a little exploration. It was a nice day and I got a lot of good shots in and around the neighborhood. I'll have to share some more with you soon.
look at you...you are like the unofficial tour guide of chocolate city!
i can't play chess to save my life. lol. beloved taught me, but he can still beat me every single time.
Like P Wife, I can't play chess - do not have the logical mind.
I love American breakfasts that is served in diners. It is the only place where I actually eat breakfast.
Haa haa!! :)Yes, I love to share my experiences. I'm a proud Washingtonian so I have to talk about my city. Btw, I haven't learned to play chess either.
Yes, the little corner diners are the best. This place was really good. I was impressed!
I haven't played chess for about twenty years...I don't think I would even remember how!
It doesn't matter. You can dance like MJ! :)
I used to think I was a great chess player....
I remember in the 2nd grade they taught us all how to play chess and there were very few people in my class that could come close to beating me...but I always won--i think.
I guess I've always had a strategic way of thinking... maybe thats why my favorite game is Mancala.
Hey, cool blog - just found it - it's really fun to see someone's comments on going through the city, doing the kinds of things I would if I were there...
I wanna go! Sounds like my kind of afternoon.
You play Chess? That's cool. Tell me, what is Mancala? School me. :)
Thank prof. I love to explore my city. Also, I'm trying to marry my love for writing and poetry. Thanks!
life of wife-
You would've had a great time! :)
I'm learning how to play chess... no actually I'm giving my freind and ego trip! But it's something I"ve always wanted to do. My sister's in Alexandria, unless it's hitting the Mall or the iconinc buildings we rarely vencher into DC
You're funny! :)I go to Alexandria to eat mostly and to go to the movies at Potomac Yards. I might chill in Old Town or just stay in the Yards and go to Hops Restaurant. They have those yummy little croissants glazed in honey. :)
Great post Stephen, your cousin seem to be concentrating very hard. Nice pix :)
I am challenging him to a game of Chess whenever, wherever!! Yeah!!!
Eeeeewuuu! Hops?? yuck!! I don't like Hops. The name itself reminds me of a home-brewed beer (Umqombhothi:). I don't like their food either. No Hops for me thanx.
that's cool...just let me have those little glazed croissants that I like so much. :)
You never heard of Mancala? (Shame on T....nah let me stop)
I got this from Wikipedia
"Mancala is a family of board games played around the world...Mancala games play a role in many African and some Asian societies comparable to that of chess in the West.
People unfamiliar with mancala games commonly assume there is a particular game with the name Mancala."
That last statement is definiately true, because I grew up thinking the one game that I Love to play is called Mancala, which it is due to marketing, but I've learned today that the name Mancala refers to a family of games.
The game that I grew up playing called Mancala looks like this:
When I come to MD I will bring mine and if we link up I'll show you how to play.
There was an interactive website that I used to go on and play when I was bored....
Let me see if I can find it...
Nope, I found some but if you arent a pro, you will be too confused. The one I used to play you could see a hand making all the moves so you could see what was being done.
If I run across it in the future I'll pass it your way.
Thanks for that info. You schooled me. :)
This looks like my kinda place! Mmm...I'm smelling breakfast sausage right now...umph!
