Weekend Plans In DC
Good morning,
What can I say....it Friday!!!! I'm always happy on Friday. I'm looking forward to this weekend. There are a few functions that I will be attending here in DC. Most of it will be taking place on historic U Street. I recently mentioned U Street in a post concerning another spot near (Busboys & Poets). U Street is a classic spot here in DC. It was called "Black Broadway" when my grandmother was growing up here in Washington. It's near the Shaw section of Washington that saw the brunt of the riots in 1968, but with the help of gentrification it is now too expensive for words. *sarcastic grin* Anyway, I should still enjoy myself. Peace to you and have a great weekend!!

i've always wanted to visit DC. i visited on an 8th grade trip, but we just did the touristy things--monuments, white house, etc. it seems like DC is a lot of fun, though.
at any rate..have a safe & happy weekend! take good pictures!
Ahh, hitting the Lincoln Theater, are you? I LOVE U Street. Where else you heading?
MJW-
I'm hitting Bus Boys and maybe Utopia. If you're in the vicinity and you possibly spot me say hello. :)
P.Wife-
Yes, DC is a lot of fun. It was nicknamed "Chocolate City" in the 70's by George Clinton and PFunk, but the city is more diverse now than when I was growing up.
Hey, You know that I'm going to take pics. My wife says that it is a surprise where we're going, so pictures are on the way.
*side note: I had to erase the original reply because I'm not suppose to know about the guest. :)
Have a great weekend Stephen, you can tell me if you already know the surprise. I don't kiss and tell :)
I used to live at 1333 T Street (1996-99). It was great, but when I visited last November it was sad and overwhelming. I miss the grit. (sigh). Thanks for taking me back everday with a new picture.

Hee hee!! :)

I feel you anita. It's like it's not a city anymore. It's lost it's edge! Have a good weekend! :)
Have a fun and safe weekend Stephen, and the rest of y'all. I am studying for finals...yuck!
Have a fab weekend and if you haven't read it yet, you have got to read Freakonomics by Steven Levitt - I thought of you as I read it :-)
I still want to check out Busboys and Poets. I hope you have a great weekend - despite all this rain.
Hey Hey Stephen
Your comment about the gentrigfication of U Street reminded me of the flash brain fart I had when visiting Beacon Hill in BOS for the first time. It is the place so many run away slaves found haven...hotbed of antislavery (abolitionist) activism and all that....The park ranger leading the tour mentioned that Af Am living there were the primary household/domestic labor force for the white folks who lived in BOS at the time (1800's). My I thought. When exactly did all these white folks get the deeds to this land and how did that happen anyway? If any Black people own homes in Beacon Hill these days, I never saw them. Ironic isn't it? Enjoy your week-end.
I hope that you had a enjoyable weekend. I love Friday's too.

Ahhh...I know that your good study habits will pay off.

I'm going to have to check that out. It sounds freaky! :)
I'll try to figure out what aspect of the book reminded you of me?
brea-
Yes, it was a little misty yesterday, but it was still nice despite the rain.
barbie-
Yes, the story of this nation. There are so many old neighborhoods losing their character and developing a new identity. Unfortunately, this identity does not reflect diversity. I'm cool with changing the neighborhood for the better, but not at the expense of the previous residents who've occupied the area for decades. Thanks for that!
