John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1912 – June 21, 2001) is one of my favorite Blues singers. He was so poetic and creative with his guitar and lyrics. I think of the Blues as a linguistic record of African American Vernacular English. Listen closely and you will understand. One of my brothers gave me a John Lee Hooker CD. It has brought me much happiness [though it's the blues, if you know what I mean].
His lyrics are poetry.
Yes, I love it. He had a conversational style that is reminiscent of the way my relatives spoke and still speak (to some extent) in the south. It is truly very poetic and colorful. It has influenced my writing a great deal.
