classic art meets urban art!!

Old meets new.

A classically old image superimposed over a stylistically modern one.

it's past with future, it's anyway natural, it's life with colour and it's out of the box point of view.

Oh, and the W.W. Law post was great!!!

Ciao

Big city, bright lights, a lonely person.

[How did Stephen do this photo?]

the thresholds to the past which is reminded in our present, ancestors disappointed with eyes closed, reaching out to us from below in the form of trees, as we sit in cafe enclosures reading the happenings of destruction, and do nothing...

love the frantz fanon quote on ur sidebar!

i think this is about tranquility in a kaleidoscope of clashing colours (which could symbolise the world today)

thanks for the info about the gullahs!

I see a person meditating, maybe dreaming about another time and different colors.
It's good to see you back :)
Take care

Perhaps sadness
And resignation

During the World War One and before, we had in france picture of an Alsacian woman wearing her traditionnel dresses and just underneath was written
"She is waiting"

Because alsace in the east part of France was German for 1870, and now Alsace is French again
My ancestors was Alsacian and they came in Vosges near Alsace but in France in 1870
My ancestors did not want to become German

To me it says "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning"

Miss you much, Brother Stephen.

Hmmm. Thinking outside of the box....No, parallel imagination/thought. Its a woman who contemplates things outside the realm of a normal reality = Synchronous. Ok - I'm babbling.

it says "Hues" .. I think the color hues and balance take away the attention from the main piece.

I like the way this old statue of a woman has her eyes closed against the chaotic, vibrant colours around her.

There is a green elephant atop her head that compared to the vastness of her person is miniscule.

Her creativity shows on her face, gives her an undeniable glow. She is at peace with her spirit. I love the bold colors

I toggle between peace and annoyance. The colors are lovely, though. Did you create this?

My immediate impression was of a painting by Toulouse-Lautrec, wild living colours; the dramatic and a hint of sadness, hmmm.... "All the world's a stage
And all the men and women merely players...."? lol

It's great!

I want to answer before reading any comments and risk being influenced.
This photo to me ...
is contrast ... seperation ... and end of something maybe, that did not transform but simply closed its eyes and forgot.... or gave up.
there is no blending of ideas.
I get a mixed felling...
peaceful dreaming - death
past - present
reality - illusion
hot - cold
The straight line of bold colour draws it to the forground ...
like something in the distance went from nothing, to extreme.
I don't think the human figure is blind .... looks lost or something.

very sureal

hey!! how are you???
went back and read now... when are you gonna give your answer of what it means to you?
I think now I feel it is some sort of choice being made or considered- maybe avoided?
I did study art interprutation ... so I always love to realise what was in the artsist mind.

One of the comments felt that the colors were taking away from the main subject, but it forces me to look at her. She is still the main focus and the colors represent the different forces in her life. Emotions run from high to low and that can be exhausting. Yet, in the end she prevails and makes it through.

Amia-
What? You're definitely poetic. Thank you.

Thami-
That's what they said when I got married. :)

Sandy-
Thanks! I love that quote by The Bard. :)

I saw the girl as the focal point too. had to kind of pull my eyes away to see the colour.
Now that you have explained I see ... she is exhausted!
and you did good represting with colour and line... there was no sense of "end" or "defete"
I love it!
