Lorraine Hansberry: Favorite Quote

"How much time must one take to know what one feels?"

Lorraine Hansberry (1930-1965) was an American playwright and painter, whose A RAISIN IN THE SUN (1959) was the first drama by a black woman to be produced on Broadway.
I find it incredible that her legacy has surpassed her time here on Earth by many years. I wasn't able to find this quote anywhere online? I had to look for it in the book, but it is the one line that stuck with me the most. By the way, have a great weekend!

The answer to her question is, "a lot more than I usually expect."

Have a great one Stephen!

I will have to check out the book as well sometime. I love how you educate me on all this history! It is great to learn! If it were not for you I would never have learned a lot of history! Thank you! Have a fun and safe weekend, and spoil your wife on Sunday!

Happy Friday!
Now that's a quote. Too bad we think too much.

Hopefully one doesnt have to think about what they feel and instead they just allow themselves to feel it.

Spending too much time trying to decipher the feeling will make you so far removed from the actual feeling that you never got time to embrace the feeling.

Yes, we do think too much at times. You know, the one time that I didn't think too much is when I met my wife. Look at me now. :)

thanks for sharing your great travel story. It was very inspirational to see that brothas can get together for a meaningful long discourse. Would have loved to be a fly in the car for that conversation!

As a writer, I can only hope my legacy surpasses my time here on earth as is the case with Ms. Hansberry. It's interesting -- God's vision and blessings for us can far surpass what we envision and wish for ourselves. I bet she never dreamed that she'd leave behind the legacy that she did. I didn't realize she died so young though. As a black woman writer it makes me proud that she was the 1st black woman to be produced on Broadway! Okay -- I'll stop hogging up your comments for this post -- I've made up 1/3 already! Hee. Hope your week is off to a good one. (BTW, I ran out of books, yours is in the mail now!)
