Me And Baby Brother

I am so happy that it's Friday! I have no plans yet, but sometimes that's a good thing. I have to clear out of my place by the end of the month so I'll be wrapping things up on that end in DC. I've had to make a lot of adjustments for the last couple of months, but things are running smoothly. I've made some important decisions lately conerning my career and school. I've decided that I am definitely going back into the classroom to teach. I was teaching high school English before I started working at my current job (I currently work in publishing and it has reminded me of why I left a corporate setting in the first damn place! What in the hell am I doing here?) Anyway, it is definitely time to get back to what I need to be doing...teaching. I feel that I definitely needed this break though. I've accomplished many of my personal goals while working in publishing. I've also made a solid decision to pursue my writing as more than just a hobby! So, I am looking into applying for a couple of writing programs in the DC metro area. I only pray for the wisdom, strength, discipline and patience to accomplish all that I am meant to do. Anyway, I hope that you have a great weekend and that you are either working on or accomplishing all that your heart is made of. Peace~

Honorable Mention: (Speaking of accomplishments) My younger brother has a spot on MySpace now. He is just doing his thing and promoting his recent cd. He has a different way of expressing himself that I think most of you would enjoy. I love it!

Hi,
Saw your post on jenellybean's site and wanted to check you out. Glad to know other SSCers are out and about writing and discussing life!
I support your change in career. I never did the corporate thing but I did give up a very lucrative Federal governement job to enter the education field. OUR children need strong intelligent men to guide their minds and lead them to the high road. Go for it brother!

Good for you making those decisions. I need to make some of those. I work in publishing but on the sales side and the corporate environment is not my scene. Pursue your writing - you're very good at it.

I try to. And about teaching. You have all my respect. My mother taught for years. She's retired now and I know that teachers don't get half the respect they deserve and it's a shame. Without good teachers what would we have? I commend you. It's not easy stepping in a classroom and trying to guide the youth. I can't tell you how stressed out my mom became before she retired. It's a hard job. I don't think many understand or care how hard it actually is.

Good you are going back to the classroom. We need good men there for role modeling. Too many folks are leaving when the kids need them the most.

I'm so happy to hear that you are following your dreams and getting a new career! Thank you for your encouragement.

First, much respect to you and yours. I always get excited when I come across someone from SSC. That's when it was still just an intimate little college in Thunderbolt, GA. By the way, I lived off campus right around the corner in Fernwood. Also, I'm going to need the strength to get back into the classroom. I'll try to be strong for the kids.

I imagine your personality through your writing and you seem like an extraordinary person. I'm sure that you will do what you desire as soon as you feel it's time. Thank you for your encouraging words.

stacy-deanne,
I don't know if I will retire in the public school system?? That's difficult to say at this point, but It would be difficult for me to stay where I am stressed. I've always had hopes in teaching on a college level. I, too, have a great deal of respect for those teachers that can stay in the trenches to the end. It's not easy. I'll pray for the strength. :)

I did have a great, snowy weekend. I hope that your weekend went well too. Thanks for checking my brother out.

Yeah, I hope that my brother makes it big with his work. He's been side by side with those who have made it. He came out of the same intimate underground Atlanta scene as singers India Irie and Donnie. That was back in the day when he was with JJason Blackwell in the late 90's. I use to see India performing live back then and I thought that she had star quality. My little brother has it too.

David-
Wow! It's been a long time. By the way, I love your poetry. I like to think that I know what I'm supposed to be doing?? :)
I try to listen to my heart and follow it where it leads me. I'm glad that you like my brother's music. He's bad brother!

Rose-
Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I'm going to give the kids another chance. Besides, I love to talk about literature.

Haa haa! :) I apologize for not warning you about how HOT my brother is. I guess that he's just Thomas to me. That's my dawg! Yeah, you should hear him perform.
Also, thanks for the encouragement.

Nikki-
You're funny! I appreciate that comment.

JenellyBean-
Thank you! Happy Valentines Day!! You come and go like the wind. I know that school keeps you busy. I appreciate your kind words about me and teaching. Admittedly, my passion is with literature more than children. I love the kids, but I love talking about literature to them more. They feel that love and reciprocate. As for publishing, I've published a few articles over the years and recently with the company that I work. I want to write fiction. I am working on short story writing at this time. I hope to be enrolled in a writing prgm by Summer. Anyway, have a wonderful Valentine's Day and take care.

Yes, Ms. India Irie is beautiful, but I was just thinking that I never approached her to say hello or anything in such an intimate place. I make an effort to say hello to everyone now before they blow up! :)

Bougie Stephen-
Yeah, I can't wait for Thomas to really soar. He's doing a second solo project that should be real cool.
