Daddy's Little Girl

"The true worth of a race must be measured by the character of its womanhood."

— Mary McLeod Bethune

This is an excerpt from an earlier post, but I thought back to this when I learned of a friend who was bitten by her 12 year old daughter. What is happening to our little girls? What would the great Mary McLeod Bethune suggest about the children of today?

God bless Rosa Parks.

Previous post:

You know, one can observe the problems of the world riding the subway train. I mean, every deadly sin can be accounted for from pride to lust. I am not being judgemental because I am definitely not free of sin. Anyway, I sat on the train this morning and observed wrath and envy. Actually, I see this everyday with our school age youth on the train. Unfortunately, it is the girls that are in an uproar. "I don't like that bitch anyway....I wish she would say something to me." Watch out!!!! There's a "Girl Fight" featuring Big Boi and Lil Jon. Pump your fist! Kill that bitch! Throw your hands in the air!!!! Snatch out that hoes hair!!! Somebody scream!!!!!!!! Stop!!!!!!!!!!Our girls are trying to kill each other and hip-hop is celebrating it with an anthem? How absurd is that?
In the words of Marvin Gaye, "Who really cares...who is willing to try to save our world...to save a world that destined to die." This is where the loathing comes in. If you are a conscious observer in this world that we live you can't help but be affected by the absurdity and ignorance that is displayed on a daily. Ahh!!! to be young and not have a care in the world. The 18th century poet, Thomas Gray said that "ignorance is bliss." Yeah, only if you are mildly retarded and you just got the new Jordans and a hot pocket.

On August 9, 1956.. 20000 strong women tied shawls on their tiny little waists and marched to the Union Building in Pretoria South Africa to flatly refuse, to carry Pass Books!!

Women are nation-builders, not bitches!! the problem began the very same second that women endorsed the name change from "A Woman" to "bitch"!!

Leaders:
"We, the women of South Africa shall judge any future government in this country that has a claim to adherence to democratic principles by its ability to develop, empower and affirm disadvantaged groups, and central to this will be women.

Strategic Planning:
In conclusion we appeal to all South African women's organisations to prepare themselves for the 40th anniversary of the march.

Embrace Each Other:
We recognise that Afrikaner women suffered and died under the British and that they, too, as women have suffered. At this point in our history we as the women of the African National Congress are stretching out our hands in friendship across the divides that tore our nation in the past. We want to see Mrs de Klerk, Mrs Tereblanche, Mrs Viljoen join us on that day to cement the unity of South African women as we close this century.

We still say
WATHINTA ABAFAZI
WATHINTI MBOKODO (You touch women, you have touched a wild beast, you will die!!!!)

I really wish people wouldn't remain anonymous. Especially when their posts are so great, like this.

Stephen,

This post stirs me. I wonder the same about our girls. It's so sad, and it's sad that their demise is so celebrated, as you've said. I would that all of our girls would grow into women of strong and noble character, as Mary McLeod Bethune said. If I ever have a daughter, I hope to impart to her the true importance of this. And yes, God rest the soul of Rosa Parks.

God bless, and have a great evening!

Yes, it makes me sad too. It makes me sick just to observe them on a regular basis. The children lack guidance because the parents didn't have any. I see the nonsense first hand because I live in the inner-city. In a way, I'm glad that I see what I see every day because it reminds me of what is really going on. I try to do all I can even if it is one child at a time. Thanks for stopping by. Peace~

I think we need to change how little girls think of each other. Women have gone from solidarity with shared interests and compassion for one another to catfights and bitches and ho's. Part of that is the influence of the patriarchal culture, but another part is that women now view each other as the enemy and teach their little girls to act the same way.

Sumeeta,I agree wholeheartedly. It makes me angry that individuals in the Hip Hop music industry supports this misogynistic treatment and view of women. Burn Hollywood Burn!
Sumeeta, always a pleasure.

I'm suprised Sumeeta said "bitches and Ho's"--I think I need to get a bar of soap! ! !

Nothing is good or bad, only thinking makes it so!!! some great person said that and I am hooked! Sumeeta, I think patriarchy is null and void without matriarchy. Mothers, and fathers play completely opposite but equal roles in a child's live. I think we see catfights, and all this other mess because societal standards are either too low, or we have none in place in this day and age.

Ooops! that will be in a "child's life"
